Algerian guitarist, multi-instrumentalist, singer, composer and producer, Djamel Laroussi has been the first African to be admitted to the prestigious University of Music in Cologne. First in his class in jazz composition, guitar and drums, he graduated with honors.
Lefty, plays guitar "right" upside down without inverting the strings and is considered by the specialized press in the top 20 in the ranking of the best guitarists in the world.
Djamel, is Algerian representative for UNICEF since 2009 and also a consultant to the Algerian Ministry of Culture.
Many tours and collaborations over the years have led him to play with many big names in the jazz world, including: Graham Haynes, Steve Williamson, Nelson Veras, Keith Copeland, Chico Freeman, Benny Golson, Billy Cobham, Munyungo Jackson, Richie Beirach, Dave Liebman, Jiggs Whigham, Frank Haunschild, Karim Ziad, Dwight Trible, Brice Wassy, Mokhtar Samba.
In 2010 he participated, as an official member of the band, to the european dates of Stevie Wonder tour.
With his group released three albums "Etoile Filante", "Live" and "3 Marabouts", inspired by the musical culture of the marabouts, Gnawa trance music and the sounds of the Sufi brotherhoods of North Africa.
